Inaugural European Tessitura Training Course
In November we were delighted to welcome 10 students from UK Organisations to our inaugural European Tessitura Center for Professional Development (TCPD) fundraising training course. Starting with a two-week online phase, students from the National Theatre, Southbank Centre, Shakespeare’s Globe, Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, The Roundhouse and Birmingham Hippodrome learned how Tessitura can support their fundraising functions from the very beginning. This Core phase led to an immersive classroom-based week, hosted by Birmingham Hippodrome.
“It was amazing!” enthused Marina Abel Smith, Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment. “Tessitura is such a powerful tool and it is built for people like us… most arts organisations have very similar challenges and Tessitura is set up to help with every single one of them, so you might as well learn how to use it properly…give it the time, energy and head space it requires, with the people who know the most about it.”

Across six days students covered Campaigns, Appeals, Sources, Contributions, GDPR compliance, Gift Aid management, Direct Debit processing, Moves Management, Special Events management, Reporting, as well a first look at Tessitura Analytics, and so much more! Interactive lectures were combined with lab time, allowing plenty of space to discuss ideas, try new things and to consolidate learning (A number of delicious cakes were also consumed over the week, with hosts Birmingham Hippodrome looking after the team very well.)
“Tessitura is such a powerful tool and it is built for people like us… Give it the time, energy and head space it requires, with the people who know the most about it.”
The learning and networking didn’t stop there. In small groups, students have been working on a final project to help support all that they’ve learned, as well as continuing to build the Tessitura Community. TCPD instructors Marisa, Becci and Ellie are looking forward to seeing these presentations later in the month.
“As a fundraiser, I love enthusiasm, which the instructors had an abundance of for Tessitura,” said Amy Cody of Shakespeare’s Globe. The course “really inspired me to see the potential both for myself and for my organisation.”
Want to learn more from those who attended our first European TCPD? Then look out for our next UK Development TUG meeting, where you will be able to hear firsthand from participants, including their highlights and takeaways. Claire and Ellie will be in touch about this soon! Or if you want to know when the next course in the UK will be, or want to reserve a space, please email Claire.
The next Comprehensive courses in the U.S. begin in the spring. In addition, distance learning classes in both ticketing and fundraising begin the first Monday of each month.
