Putting the Tessitura Puzzle Pieces Together Quickly with TCPD

When Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre hired a new box office manager last year, Director of Patron Services Sheena Baird assumed her new hire would have to upskill on Tessitura the way she had – by gradually accumulating new knowledge and skills over a long period of time.

The prospect was daunting. Sheena was already going to be short on time with the current box office manager leaving. She needed a quick fix, and the Comprehensive Ticketing course from the Tessitura Center for Professional Development (TCPD) gave her one.

Julie Gregorchuk, the new box office manager, asked about enrolling in the TCPD course shortly after assuming her new position. Sheena says of Julie, “She was always curious. She was always looking to learn. She wanted to figure out the puzzles. This was an opportunity to give her more of the pieces of that Tessitura puzzle really quickly.”

Sending Julie to Dallas for a week of immersive classroom training was a winning gamble, Sheena shared. “We were in the middle of our renewal campaign, and there was a lot going on. But we just made it work. And it’s paid off.”

Julie reflects on the last 10 months since becoming a TCPD graduate:  “Since my week at TCPD I’ve felt more confident in my abilities to navigate around the system with ease. Some of the tips and tricks covered have really come into good use. I feel that the knowledge I’ve gained has really helped my team as a whole and will continue to venture us forward with Tessitura.”

Julie returned to Winnipeg not only with the Tessitura knowledge and skills to provide immediate assistance to Sheena, but also with strong and supportive connections to several of her TCPD classmates. They continue to build their Tessitura knowledge by reaching out to each other for information and advice, such as: “Has anyone done Surprise and Delight?” “Does anyone have a Pricing Rule that does this?”

Sheena estimates that it would have taken her at least a year to provide the same level of training that Julie received in one week of immersive training through TCPD. “We would have been training in between meetings and things that come up at the box office. TCPD was great for Julie, and it was great our organization, too.”
